SDASS Health IDVA Service

SDASS Health Service provides free and confidential Independent Domestic Violence Advisor support, advice and advocacy, to patients and health care professionals, within the Great Western Hospital (GWH) and Swindon based GP Surgeries.

Both male and female patients and staff can access IDVA support within these Health Settings by self-referral or professional referral. The Health IDVA’s are able to support those experiencing standard, medium and high-risk domestic abuse.

GWH IDVA Service
The GWH IDVA service provides patients and staff with free 1-2-1 confidential advice and support where they can explore risk assessment, safety planning, emotional and practical help and support. The service also offers departmental domestic violence and abuse awareness-raising. 

This support can also continue once they have been discharged back into the community. Alternatively, you can ask your Health care provider to make a referral on your behalf. 

GP IDVA Service
The GP IDVA service provides patients and staff with free 1-2-1 confidential advice and support where they can explore risk assessment, safety planning, emotional and practical help and support. The service also offers domestic violence and abuse awareness-raising to clinical and non-clinical practice staff. 

This support can take place at the GP Surgery or in the community.

GP Surgery Drop-ins
The GP IDVA service offers Domestic Abuse Drop-ins. Patients and staff can access advice and support relating to Domestic Abuse by attending a GP Drop-in. No appointment is necessary, and you do not need to contact the surgery before attending, simply ask at reception to see the GP IDVA and they will be notified of your arrival.

(Please note whilst we aim to run drop-ins all year round, they are subject to staff availability, it is advisable to contact the GP IDVA or the helpline in advance, when possible).
